Lacrosse as a State Sport

"Any day now", has been the answer to the question of when Lacrosse will become a state sanctioned sport for several years.  The state sanctioning body is the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and according to their by-laws, ten percent of the IHSA member schools must participate in the sport before it becomes sanctioned. Right now, there are 720 schools in the IHSA, which means that there must be 72 schools playing Lacrosse.

As of last season, there are 56 boys teams and 36 girls teams.  Because of "Co-op" teams where a school district fields one team for all its high schools there are actually 61 schools participating in Boys Lacrosse.  This is eleven short of the 72 school requirement.  The IHSA requires either boys or girls to reach the number, they will not count both.

Every year more schools create teams and become part of Illinois Lacrosse; York, Hinsdale South, and several others joined this past season.  The IHSA could decide that the growth warrants early adoption, or they could wait until there are more than enough varsity teams.  No one knows for sure, we only know that it will be "any day now".

Board Meetings

Lacrosse Board Meetings are held at Hinsdale Central High School, room 124A and begin promptly at 7pm.  All interested parents are welcome to attend.
Meetings: August 5, September 2, October 7, November 4, and December 2.  See you there.

Robbins Park Lightning Alert System

The park district has installed a state-of-the-art Lightning Alert System in Robbins Park to warn players of Lightning within a two mile vicinity of the park.  The park district requests that we exit the field in the event of an alert, and not return until the strobe light is off.  For more information see the flyer here.
