Red Devils Tame Broncos 13-8 In Opening Game
In their season opener on March 18, the Hinsdale Central Boys Lacrosse team defeated the Barrington Broncos 13-8 at Barrington High School. The Broncos won the opening face-off and 14 seconds into the game, they put the first point on the board. Thirty seconds later, Red Devil senior Peter Santulli found the back of the net to tie it up 1-1. The team traded goals and with one second remaining on the clock in the first quarter, Red Devil senior Colin Kiesel scored a man-up goal on a Santulli helper to take a 3-2 lead and never looked back. Hinsdale led Barrington 7-4 at half time.
Senior Mike Tenerelli, junior Mike Baker (four groundballs) and sophomore Jared Sinnes led the Hinsdale defense (three groundballs). Red Devil senior Jack Traeger and junior Jack Kelly both scooped up contested ground balls and juniors Matt Lord and Matt Stefani both caused a Bronco turnover. Senior goalie Eddie Coyle stopped nine Barrington shots on goal for a 52.9 save percentage.
The Hinsdale offense was led by Santulli who recorded nine points (five goals and four assists), junior Sean Embree (four goals), and senior Grant Crawford (two goals, one assist). Other Red Devils that put points on the board were Kiesel (one goal) and seniors Ian Cameron (one goal) and Kevin Coveny (one assist).
For their next contest, the Red Devils travel to Louisville, Kentucky on March 27 to face the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats of Columbus, Ohio at 9:30 AM (ET).
