Red Devils Beat Bearcats in Overtime!
In their second game in Louisville, Kentucky on March 27, the Hinsdale Central Red Devils edged out the Kentucky Country Day Bearcats 13-12 in sudden death over time on a Red Devil senior Grant Crawford goal on a beautiful feed from senior Kevin Coveny.
In a game where the lead changed hands five times, the Red Devils took an early first quarter lead as senior Sean Embree found the back of the net on a senior Peter Santulli assist. Less than two minutes later, junior Evan Roglich scored his first varsity career goal to put the Red Devils ahead 2-0. The Bearcats responded and tied it up 2-2 toward the end of the first quarter. The teams proceeded to trade goals and Hinsdale led Kentucky Day 7-6 at the half. The Bearcats came out strong in the third quarter and outscored the Red Devils 5-2. In the fourth quarter Hinsdale fought back and with 51 seconds remaining on the clock in regulation play, Crawford scored the tying goal on another Santulli helper to send the game into sudden death over time.
The Red Devil defense was led by senior goalie Eddie Coyle (50% saves) and senior Mike Tenerelli (4 contested ground balls). Junior Evan Roglich and Santulli, helped the Red devils control possession by each causing 2 Bearcat turnovers.
Hinsdale displayed a balanced scoring attack as seven players managed to put points on the board: Santulli (2 goals, 5 assists), Coveny (3 goals, 1 assist), senior Ian Cameron (3 goals), Crawford (2 goals), senior Colin Kiesel (1 goal, 1 assist) and Embree and Roglich each had one goal.
